Understanding Samavaay

Samavaay (or Samavāya) is a word of Sanskrit origin that is used to denote the eternal relationship of an object to its properties. For example, the relationship of fire and heat. The closest English word for Samavaay is inherence. The opposite of Samavaay is Samayog or coincidence which represents a temporary and, apparently random, relationship between objects and properties.

We have taken the word Samavaay and made it into the foundational idea at the core of a set of principles that focus on creating very long-lived businesses. Samavaay is not a single business idea but a handbook for modern business owners. While modern businesses aim to be long-lived, they often struggle to base their strategies on Samavaay. When Jeff Bezos was asked "what will change in the next 10 years", he highlighted that the more important question is "what will NOT change in the next 10 years". He said, businesses that aim to be long-lived are better served by strategies that focus on things that are stable in time. We believe that with a deeper understanding of the natural world and Samavaay, it is possible to create generational businesses that last several centuries.
